Thank Yous
February 7, 2008 "So how does it feel to have a two-decade old daughter?" I asked my mom over pizza a few hours ago. I looked at her intently while asking this. It isn’t a particularly important question but I’m interested in her reaction in a clinical sort of way. Do you know what she did? She continued munching on her salad without missing a beat. And that’s all the reaction I need, really. A speech would have emabarrassed me and (I know it might be mean to say this) an emotional answer would have disgusted me. My relationship with my mother is one that involves a lot of significantly unsaid significant things—we are both aware of this. I’m only guessing, of course.
That said, I would like to thank everyone who greeted me happy birthday today. You know who you are. I didn’t reply to almost all of them (two down) as I don’t have cellphone load for such an endeavor; my apologies. Honestly though, I’m embarrassed about birthdays.
Do you notice that I rarely greet people on their birthdays? Well, you should notice that sometime, when it’s your bithday. I won’t greet you because I don’t think I have the right to. I don’t want you to think that I remembered you only because Friendster sent me an email telling me it’s your birthday—odds are though, that ought to be the case so I’d rather not greet you to save us both the awkwardness. Also, when people greet me on my birthday, I never quite know what to say. In my head, I want to save people from that, even if they don’t have the same problem. Twisted I know.
A few special mentions though: Paul and Manoy has never failed to greet me a few minutes after midnight for the past few years. Track record! I didn’t get to see Marco today, but we celebrated it yesterday. My brother was nice to me today. Would you believe that? Thanks to all the Man Blog people who greeted me, especially boss. I won a mineral make-up gift pack from Kikay Exchange yesterday, so that’s another birthday gift for me yay! Overall, it’s a nice 20th.
Thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to pull it off.
