The Face Shop Face Stuff: A Review
February 29, 2008If I had good skin, I wouldn’t mind going out of the house wearing only lip balm, blush, and eyeliner. As it is, I have terrible skin—blemishes, uneven skintone, oilyness and all. I think I’ve mentioned somewhere that I’m very self-conscious of how I look. I also LOVE colors! And I like myself. So colors + myself= colors on myself= make-up! Perfect equation.
Anyway one of my favorite cosmetic shops is The Face Shop. Their stuff is fairly cheap and the quality is awesome (powders, eyeshadow, blushes, but the foundation sucks)! I like the personnel at the Mall of Asia branch, they don’t pressure me or anything. I mean, when I buy make-up I take an awfully long time. I take a long time when I buy clothes too, but not as much time as buying cosmetics. I mean, if I don’t like a shirt, I can just throw it in a corner of my messy closet and wait until I like it. But a wrong shade of makeup is something that I can never use short of sugery.
Anyway, here’s my review of three Face Shop prducts: their Dewy Flower Moist Loose Power in 23 Natural Beige, Pro Foundation in 21 Light Beige and the Luminating Loose Pearl Powder in Peach .
Weird
February 27, 2008I woke up five minutes ago, with the remnants of what is probably the weirdest dream I’ve ever had in my life still floating in my head.
I was in a hospital room with four other people. We were watching, appalled, as a woman with barf-stained clothes and hair frantically tried to sweep a pile of babies outside the room using one of those plastic combs with metal teeth. Disgusted, I slapped her and she flew to the floor.
Reincarnation
February 25, 2008How do you know you’re doing the right thing? You don’t. You just sashay through life blindly, led by the philosophy of dead white men. You are taught to believe in this instead of that and to do this instead of that. Have you ever asked yourself how much of your life is actually yours? Magic and mysticism aside, you are most probably just another reincarnation of an idea that should have died by sheer virtue of foolishness, but didn’t, because ideas are harder to kill than men. Foolish men jump off the cliff to smash into pulp against the rocks below. Ideas jump off the cliff to build a space ship that has a hyperjump drive.
Feeds On!
February 19, 2008Some people have been complaining about not seeing my blog in their feeds for some time now. It was only last week that I figured out why. It’s because my feed subscription isn’t turned on! Meh, I thought it was automatic. If you add http://lizette.i.ph in Google Reader you’re only going to see my (un-updated) links page. Well, now add it again and you’re going to see my blog. Yay! Add add add!
Busy Two Weeks Ahead Alert!
Gosh, there are so many things to do. Maybe no less than five research papers (no I haven’t really counted because I’m sure going to be depressed if I knew the exact figures) to be done in two, three weeks, one comprehensive report on the women’s movement in Southeast Asia this Wednesday, one speech in a sort of debate this Friday about Loren Legarda as a presidentiable, quiz on Saturday with tons of readings—jeez. I hate being busy, since I’m busy so rarely.
The Absence of Will
February 9, 2008The textbook definition of a democracy is a government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Thus, the most important feature of any democracy is a competitive election which reflects the people’s will. The most obvious and direct manifestation of this will is the Congress, wherein we confer the power to make laws to 240 individuals who we trust to represent our interests from the grassroots. The executive and the judiciary serve secondary functions: one administrates and the other judges according to law. This is how a democracy ought to be. Of course, we know that what is is very far from the ideal—in fact, in this case, the ideal does not truly exist in practice anywhere in this big chunk of rock we call Earth.
Now so what? The point is, don’t feel too bad whenever you hear of news that trample your right to a democracy. Such an emotionally loaded word, democracy, for something that does not exist. What you should really feel bad about is a dictatorship. It is here in the Philippines, right now, and we are letting it happen.
Thank Yous
February 7, 2008 "So how does it feel to have a two-decade old daughter?" I asked my mom over pizza a few hours ago. I looked at her intently while asking this. It isn’t a particularly important question but I’m interested in her reaction in a clinical sort of way. Do you know what she did? She continued munching on her salad without missing a beat. And that’s all the reaction I need, really. A speech would have emabarrassed me and (I know it might be mean to say this) an emotional answer would have disgusted me. My relationship with my mother is one that involves a lot of significantly unsaid significant things—we are both aware of this. I’m only guessing, of course.
Fragments
February 5, 2008Selflessness is an unnatural human trait. For some reason, people believe than being selfless (or altruism) is the ultimate ideal. Selflessness entails sacrifice on an individual’s part in order to help the maximum number of people, going as far as giving up one’s life or happiness. However, I agree with Ayn Rand when she says that a truly selfless person is the worst kind of person—in giving it all just to make other people’s lives better, the selfless person gives up his identity. And an identity is the only thing one ever truly owns in a lifetime.

Having an identity is not automatic, neither is it involuntary. I think that it is a constant battle against forces trying to make an individual conform to the social norms.
