Goodbye, Corporate Life

June 8, 2007

I'll be leaving dotPH today. It feels unreal that I won't wake up at 4 am anymore from groggy tired sleep to fix myself up for work, expend all my energy bumming in front of a computer all day then go home to groggy tired sleep. It feels like this gig is not going to end anytime soon, after two months of doing this. I guess 'anytime soon' came rather early for me to prepare for it.


 

What can I say? It was fun while it lasted.  And that's about it, I guess. For some reason my eloquence fails me at this point and I can't find anything to say after. I feel as if I should be saying tons more other stuff about the whole corporate experience but nothing comes right now. I don't know why. Maybe because I'm more than a little sad that it's over and being sad is stopping me from putting everything in a coherent perspective.

 

Truth be told, this ending feels so sudden. I can wake up next Monday and find myself hating it because of the  traffic to work. Oh well. Goodbye OJT ID which I never even got the chance to flash at any goddamned one. You have a chip on your right corner and I don't know how that happened, but I'm sorry anyway. You look cool yo'. But you've been virtually useless to me and the only time I actually held you was when I played with your retractable strap while sitting on the floor waiting for a professor to sign my Form 5 for enrollment. Sigh.

 

It's all been good. I hope to be back here after I graduate, which is  approximately two years away. In the meantime, I grab my Kenny Rogers Roasters tumbler, the only thing I kept in my drawer, and stuff it in my flashy black bag (a new one which I dislike a lot). I'm good to go. I look at my dreary cubicle for the last time. I turn in my OJT ID, walk out the glass doors and wait forever for an elevator.

Hey, glad you had fun with your OJT. When I took it, what? 1998 with BPI branch in Davao, I really had a great time too. All because the branch manager trusted me with the job and was even sent as a roving teller without any regular staff with me - only the guards. and what do you know, i’ve been working in the banking industry for 7 years now…

So, goodluck! :-) And enjoy the rest of your college days. You’ll surely miss it as soon as you join the workforce and have a taste of the real jest of life.

Saying goodbye to this routine is pretty hard. Nakakamiss din pala. I hate it when I take a look at the back of my OJT ID at nkalagay doon na “Valid Until June 2007″. Hopefully, I’ll be back in the workplace after i graduate :)

SO I WAS THINKING ABOUT YOU this morning, when I woke up and realized it was Monday and how I miss college and getting ready to go to class.

You’ll be interning (for school credit) again come summer before your senior year, right?
